Hoyas Hand Row a Beating
Ouch. That's really the only way to put it. The Row's three-game win streak came to a screeching halt Saturday in a 23-6 drubbing at the hands of @Hoyas, reminding everyone that slow pitch softball can be a cruel, cruel mistress.
Look, no one's pretending that a mid-season game is life or death, but that score stings. Petty Theft Row had been riding high after a trio of decisive wins, feeling like maybe, just maybe, this could be our year. Then came @Hoyas, a buzzsaw that left the Row wondering what just happened. Twenty-three runs? In six innings? That's the kind of score that prompts existential questions over lukewarm post-game beers.
Around the league, @Hoyas are making a statement, also defeating @The Bat Men 13-6, who now sit at 5-2. Elsewhere, @The Traffic finally broke through, edging out @Rebels 8-6 for their first victory of the season. @The Warriors topped @Uptown Knights 9-2 — a continued rough patch for @Uptown Knights as they remain winless at 0-8. @The Lobsters stayed hot with a narrow 7-6 win over @Wingdingers, and @The Goodfellas nabbed a close 8-7 victory against @Wingdingers, who had a tough day with two losses. @The Bat Men also defeated @Baby Cakes 9-0, leaving @Baby Cakes still looking for answers.
The standings tell the tale: @Hoyas lead the league with an unblemished 7-0 record, followed by @The Lobsters at 5-0. Petty Theft Row now sits at 4-2, bunched together with several other teams including @Wingdingers (4-3). The Row needs to find some consistency if they want to stay competitive.
This week also provides a stark reminder of our season opener loss to @Hoyas, where we didn't score at all in an 11-0 defeat. The rematch was, statistically, much better – but a loss is still a loss.
Next up: a Saturday doubleheader against @Fattened Calves and @The Lobsters. A chance to get back on track, a chance to measure ourselves against the league's elite. Maybe, just maybe, a chance to restore some pride. Let's get after it.
