Row Rolls Onward
Look, after that season opener, there were some questions. But Petty Theft Row has been systematically answering them, one dominant performance at a time. This past week saw us notch another win, pushing our season record to a very respectable 3W 1L and extending our winning streak to three games. Not too shabby, especially considering the conditions.
Saturday, June 27th, was not exactly a postcard day for softball in New York. We're talking moderate rain, wind gusts over 15 mph, and a muggy 77.5°F that felt more like 80.5°F. Not ideal, but you suit up and play. And play we did. In our sole matchup of the week, the Row paid a visit to @Saturday Free Agent Team 2. The bats, which have been a consistent bright spot, came alive yet again, putting up a staggering 17 runs. @Saturday Free Agent Team 2 put up a fight, clawing their way to 9 runs, but the offensive firepower of the Row was just too much, delivering a convincing 17-9 victory @Petty Theft Row @ Saturday Free Agent Team 2 (Jun 27). This latest scoring output means the Row has exploded for 10, 18, and now 17 runs in our last three outings. That kind of offensive output makes even the soggiest of game days feel like a sunny picnic.
So, where do we stand in the crowded landscape of the league? Petty Theft Row is currently in second place in the standings with a 3W 1L record. Only @Diamond Dogs are ahead of us, clinging to a perfect 3W 0L record. But @Beast, while technically in third, has an unblemished 2W 0L record, meaning they're still perfect. It’s a tight race at the top, and right behind us, @The Lobsters, @The Traffic, and @The Warriors are all tied up at 2W 1L. Every win, especially the decisive ones like this past weekend’s, helps cement our position.
Around the league this past Saturday, there was plenty of action. We saw @Fattened Calves get the better of @The Lobsters in a 13-9 contest, a win they couldn't replicate later in the day as @Beast handed them a decisive 17-7 loss. @Beast, clearly on a roll, also delivered a dominant 15-0 performance against @Saturday Free Agent 1. Elsewhere, @The Hit List secured a 7-3 victory over @Saturday Free Agent Team 2 before themselves falling to @The Warriors in a 10-6 matchup. And in another game, @The Lobsters returned to the win column with a 6-1 outing against @The Traffic. It's clear that while the top teams are establishing themselves, the rest of the league is still very much in flux, with few teams finding consistent momentum beyond the leaders.
Looking ahead, the Row gets a brief respite before returning to the diamond. In two weeks, on Saturday, July 11th, we face a challenging double-header. First up, we'll take on @Scrappys, who are actively looking for their first victory this season, holding an 0W 2L record. Then, it's a date with @Fattened Calves, currently sitting at 1W 1L. It will be a real test to see if our recent offensive explosion can power us through two more games and keep this winning streak alive. Two more wins could really put some distance between us and the chasing pack before the season starts heading toward the dog days of summer. If the bats stay as hot as they have been, anything feels possible for Petty Theft Row. We'll be ready.
