Row Takes Two, Claims Top Spot

by PTR Beat Reporter

Look, the New York City slow pitch softball season is a marathon, not a sprint, but sometimes you just gotta hit the gas. And that’s exactly what Petty Theft Row did this past Saturday, dropping two opponents in dominant fashion and clawing their way to the top of the league standings. An offense that was already firing on all cylinders just kept mashing, capping off a perfect doubleheader.

First up on Saturday, the Row squared off against @Scrappys, taking a commanding 17-2 victory @Petty Theft Row @ Scrappys (Jul 11) at North Meadow Field 6. That's a 15-run margin, folks. There's not much else to say when you put up that kind of numbers against a team, which currently sits at 0-3 on the season. It was clear from the jump that the Row meant business, setting the tone for what would be a long, glorious afternoon of softball.

Then, right after that, they went ahead and did it again. Seriously, these guys don't quit. In a much tighter affair, Petty Theft Row edged out a 10-9 victory @Petty Theft Row @ Fattened Calves (Jul 11) against @Fattened Calves on North Meadow Field 1. This one was a bit more of a nail-biter, a testament to the fact that even when the offense is cooking, you still have to grind out those close ones. Getting past @Fattened Calves, who now stand at a respectable 2-2, was a big statement win for the Row. These two victories push Petty Theft Row's record to an impressive 5-1, extending their winning streak to five games and putting them squarely in first place in the league standings.

Around the league this past Saturday, it was a busy day for a lot of teams. @The Lobsters had a big 16-0 win over @Saturday Free Agent Team 2, who are still looking for their first win at 0-4. @Fattened Calves, fresh off their loss to the Row, managed to pull off a 5-3 win against @Diamond Dogs earlier in the day. @The Traffic also got a win, dispatching @Diamond Dogs 8-5, sending the Dogs to a 3-2 record. In other action, @The Warriors beat @Saturday Free Agent Team 2 with a score of 6-4, while @Beast kept their undefeated season alive, notching a tight 3-2 win against @The Lobsters. That win keeps @Beast at a perfect 3-0, making them the only undefeated team left in the league. @The Traffic and @The Warriors are both sitting pretty at 3-1, just behind the Row.

Looking ahead, Petty Theft Row is going to need to stay sharp. Next up on the schedule, they face off against @The Warriors on July 18th back at North Meadow Field 6. This is a big one. @The Warriors are 3-1 and a real contender, so this will be a true test for the Row to see if they can maintain their grip on first place. Then, on August 1st, they'll take on @The Hit List, who are currently 2-2. Later in August, on the 8th, it's a doubleheader that could really shake things up, with games against @The Traffic (3-1) and then @The Lobsters (3-2). This season is far from over, and every game counts. But for now, the Row can bask in the glory of a perfect Saturday and a well-deserved perch atop the standings.
