Split Decision
A mixed bag to start the summer. Petty Theft Row split its opening weekend, flashing brilliance and then falling flat. The kind of up-and-down that makes you wonder if consistency is just a myth we tell ourselves.
First up, it was an 11-3 dismantling of @Wingdingers. A statement win. A message sent. An eight-run margin that suggests total domination. It’s the kind of score that makes you think the Row might actually contend this year. But then came the second game, a brutal 11-0 loss to @Hoyas on our own turf. Ouch. Shut out. Mercied, practically. A reminder that in this league, any team can beat any team on any given Saturday. You can’t take anyone lightly. The Row sits at 1-1, hardly alone in a crowded league.
Elsewhere around the league, @Fattened Calves are flexing early with a perfect 3-0 record, including a 12-4 win over @Uptown Knights and a 10-0 shutout of @The Traffic. They look like the team to beat. @Hoyas are also undefeated at 2-0, including a 9-2 victory against @Baby Cakes. @The Bat Men and @The Lobsters are also sitting pretty at 2-0, making it a four-horse race at the top of the standings. Meanwhile, @Uptown Knights are struggling mightily at 0-4. Early days, but that's a hole to dig out of. The middle of the pack is a logjam, with Petty Theft Row, @Rebels, and @Wingdingers all at 1-1. @The Warriors managed to get their first win, crushing @Rebels 12-2.
It's a long season, and a lot can change. The Row's next two games are a double-header on July 12 against @Uptown Knights and @The Traffic. An opportunity to string together some wins and climb the standings. A chance to prove that the loss to @Hoyas was just a fluke. Or, you know, just another Saturday in the park.
