Up and Down We Go

by PTR Beat Reporter

Well, here we are again. The season's underway, and Petty Theft Row is already riding the rollercoaster. Saturday was a split decision — a soul-crushing morning loss followed by an afternoon palate cleanser. That's rec league softball, baby. One minute you're wondering if you should've stayed in bed. The next, you're dreaming of a championship parade down Main Street.

First up: a brutal 12-11 defeat at the hands of @The Traffic. Ouch. To lose by a single run is always a tough pill to swallow, especially to start the year. The good news? At least the bats were awake. Eleven runs is usually enough to win. The bad news? Apparently not. Back to the drawing board.

But hold on, redemption was swift. In the afternooncap, the Row bounced back with an 11-1 demolition of @The Reservoir Dogs. Now that's more like it. The bats stayed hot, and the defense apparently remembered what a glove was for. A confidence booster, no doubt. Now, let's see if we can carry that momentum forward.

Around the league, @The Warriors and @Fattened Calves are off to scorching starts at 4-0 and 3-0, respectively. Good for them, honestly. @The Angels are also sitting pretty at 2-1 after a Saturday sweep, including a 10-8 victory over @The Hit List and a 17-9 thumping of @The Traffic. Further down the standings, @The Barracudas managed to get their first win, a 9-5 affair against @[FORFEITED], who continue to struggle. Word to the wise: avoid a team that calls itself FORFEITED. You know what you're getting.

As for our place in the grand scheme? Petty Theft Row sits at an even 1-1, tied with @The Traffic, which is, let's be honest, perfectly mediocre. But it's early, people. Plenty of softball left to be played. The season is a marathon, not a sprint. Though sometimes it feels like both at once.

Next up: a Saturday morning tilt with @The Barracudas. After that, a date with @Free Agent Team 2. Two very winnable games, on paper. Time to string together some victories, climb those standings, and start making a little noise. It's a long season. Plenty can change.
